The Lion Sleeps Tonight
Skagit Valley Tulip Festival

A piper was playing to a small crowd at the edge of a rolling, grassy knoll, and he was absolutely brilliant. As I headed down toward him, I noticed in my periphery I wasn’t alone, scores of people began to flock toward him, especially kids, as he segued into a really catchy version of The Lion Sleeps Tonight. It was during that song that this photograph was taken, and the littlest boy — with his hands over his ears — was to me, priceless. It was one of those shots you just know that you *have* to take. I talked to his Mom afterward about the covering of the ears and she laughed — that was just one of his ‘things’ he would do.
