The Crossing: Still in the Midst
Downtown Seattle
This was taken right outside Nordstrom's Downtown Seattle. The woman waiting to cross the street, in a classic ballet pose, was what caught my eye initially. The fortuitousness of the white van passing to illuminate her silhouette is one of the things I love most about street photography, moments like these can never be duplicated. This is one of the first photographs of what would become a series I've been working on called "the crossing" -- photographs of people crossing the street, or waiting to cross the street. In street photography I believe it is the great equalizer: while everyone must wait (even though some don't), everyone at some point must cross, and almost everyone (whether they wait or not) is so lost in thought during the process.
